Here's an innovative idea for drawing New Zealand ponga fern frond designs for either applique or quilting designs.
For applique, just draw around the shape or section of the shape you desire onto the back of fusible webbing. Iron the fusible webbing to the back of your fabric and cut out on the drawn line. Peel off the backing paper and iron your fern frond shape onto another piece of fabric.
Stitch around the shape with fancy embroidery stitches, buttonhole stitches using thick or thin embroidery thread for different effects or even feather stitches by hand.
For quilting designs, trace around the fern frond shape using a washable blue felt pen for light fabrics and a white steam out/wash out pen for dark fabrics.
Here are some ideas for quilting lines.
You don't need to use the whole shape, just choose areas for repeat patterns etc.
