Majestic nikau palms on a cream background. Here's a wonderful repeating pattern suitable for 'whack and stack' type quilts or interesting borders.
The red berries are a wonderful contrast to the greens of the palms. The berries take about one year to ripen. The native pigeon and other birds feast on the berries and disperse the seed. See also the
kereru (wood pigeon) and berries fabric.

The Nikau Palm is the only native palm of New Zealand and grows up to 15m in height. It is found in coastal and warmer inland forests of the North Island. Abundant on the northwest coast of the South Island around Karamea, it is also found on Banks Pensinsula and the Chatham Islands.
